IFFI 2024 Opens with Thunderous Applause for Australian Film Better Man

The 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) commenced with a grand opening in Goa, featuring the Australian musical biopic Better Man as its inaugural film. Directed by Michael Gracey, renowned for The Greatest Showman, the film offers an intimate exploration of British pop icon Robbie Williams’ life, blending his journey to fame with his inner struggles.

The red carpet event saw the presence of producer Paul Currie, actress Raechelle Banno, and several dignitaries, including I&B Secretary Sanjay Jaju and Festival Director Shekhar Kapur. Paul Currie described the film as a reflection of Robbie’s self-perception rather than public opinion, while Raechelle Banno expressed her excitement at showcasing the film at IFFI. Joining via video call, Gracey acknowledged Bollywood’s profound influence on his work.

Better Man stands out for its unique narrative, with Robbie Williams playing himself, offering an authentic portrayal of his extraordinary journey. The film captures his rise from boyband sensation in Take That to record-breaking solo artist, complemented by an unforgettable soundtrack of his greatest hits.

Met with thunderous applause, Better Man set a high standard for IFFI 2024, celebrated for its honest depiction of fame and resilience through the universal language of cinema.
