Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Highlights India’s Thriving Creative Economy at IFFI 2024
The 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) opened with grandeur in Goa, where Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw delivered an inspiring video message. Emphasizing the growing prominence of India’s creative sector, the Minister highlighted its role in economic growth and cultural diplomacy, underscoring the importance of empowering creators through innovation and technology.
“Innovative content showcasing India’s diverse cultures, cuisines, and heritage is driving our creative economy. With the integration of technology and a robust creators’ ecosystem, India’s creative sector will continue to thrive,” Vaishnaw stated.
The Minister outlined a vision for fostering a ‘Decentralized Creative Revolution,’ noting emerging creative hubs in cities like Guwahati, Kochi, and Indore. He also stressed leveraging cutting-edge technologies to craft stories that resonate globally while retaining India’s unique identity.
In a published article, Vaishnaw revealed that India’s creative economy is valued at $30 billion, contributing 2.5% to GDP and employing 8% of the workforce. With over 200,000 full-time content creators, the influencer marketing sector alone is valued at INR 3,375 crore. He highlighted initiatives like the World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES) to position India as a global content powerhouse.
“IFFI offers creators mentorship, collaboration, and a platform to shape the industry’s future,” Vaishnaw added, expressing hope for India’s rise as a global storytelling leader. The nine-day festival runs from November 20–28, celebrating the transformative power of cinema and the creative vision of Indian and international filmmakers alike.
